Mark Kelley of the Kelley family & Kelley Girl Charters in Panama City, FL is proud to announce that his son, Carson Kelley, has just become a Maritime Captain. Carson, who is only 19 years of age is now the fourth generation Captain in the Kelley family. The Kelley family has been residents of Bay County since 1943. They have a combined experience of more than 100 years in the fishing industry. Mark’s grandfather, Arnold Peel, began his commercial fishing in 1943. His father, Buddy Kelley, started his love for charter and commercial fishing in 1963. He continued fishing until he retired in 1995.
Commenting on Carson’s achievement, out of excitement, Mark the father of the latest Captain in the family said, “Its official Capt. Carson Kelley. I am so proud of my son. This makes three generations of Captains in the Kelley family.”
Carson has been a deckhand since he was 15. He is now the fourth generation fisherman in the Kelley family. The budding young man is fond of nature and an outdoorsy, little wonder he decided to toe the line of his forefathers. He is currently in college majoring in exercise science, which will enable him to also contribute to human fitness, holistic wellness, and longevity. Coming from a family of renowned fishermen, Carson has had the opportunity to learn from multiple experienced captains. This has not only made him start off on the right foot as a captain but also ensure he remains steadfast for years to come.
Kelley Girl Panama City Beach Fishing Charters is a family business run and operated by Mark Kelley, Carson’s father. Mark worked for his dad as the captain of the Kelley Girl, a 52 feet fishing boat, which he later bought from him and began his career as a Captain. He has successfully turned his passion into business for 35 years while providing customers with the best experience in Panama City Beach fishing.
Mark has also enlarged his fleet with the purchase of another charter boat, the Lady Kelley, a 55 feet fishing boat. This purchase provided more opportunities for returning customers to fish on their preferred booking dates. Throughout the years, Mark has used the Kelley Girl and Lady Kelley to build private artificial reefs. These fishing spots are not shared with other private boats and recreational fishermen. Therefore, Mark can take customers to his “sweet spots” and experience fishing that others cannot.
The Kelley family’s legacy and tradition of fishing have led to a successful business. This success came from knowledge and wisdom that Mark has gained from his ancestors and experiences growing up around many of the best fishermen in the area. Mark currently has more than 35 years of fishing in the waters of the panhandle. His love for this sport comes across through his jovial spirit, wit, laughter, and dedication to the customers he serves.
Mark is glad that his son, Carson, has also decided to continue in the family tradition of fishing. It is hoped that he will also pass the wisdom and knowledge to the next generation to keep the family legacy going.
